Hi Undergrads,

I hope you've had a great first week! As the semester begins, you may be
looking for new ways to get involved in the MIT community and make an
impact on campus through projects, policies, and events.

All of our UA committees are now accepting applications. The full list of
committees and descriptions are below.

11:59pm Wednesday, September 19th! *Individual committees will follow up
with you for interviews and next steps.

*We will also be having an info session (with *boba*!) in 3-370 from 7-8pm
on Thursday, September 13th! *Come learn more about what the UA is about
and talk to our different committee chairs.

Committee Descriptions

*Alumni Affairs:* The alumni affairs committee connects undergraduates and
alumni to develop meaningful relationships. We aim to expand current
resources and provide a more personal approach for undergraduates to access
mentors from all areas of industry and academia.

*Campus Planning: *A committee that works on creating a plan for the future
of MIT including negotiating dining contracts and looking at creating and
enhancing community spaces on campus.

*Community and Diversity:* A committee that works on creating an equitable
and welcoming campus for all undergraduates.

*Community Service:* A committee that explores ways to involve
undergraduates in their community through service and building
relationships with local groups.

*Education*: A committee that works on education and research policy,
advising, subject evaluation and GIRs. Our projects this year include
improving undergrad advising, remodelling subject evaluations, providing
more online classes, and popularizing grade transparency.

*Events*: UA Events is a committee in charge of planning large
undergraduate-focused events such as FallFest - a professional comedy show,
TechTwinkles - an initiative to brighten our campus with holiday lights,
SpringFest - a music concert, and various study breaks throughout the year.
We are excited about the year ahead and are looking for great committee
members to join us.

*Financial Board*: A committee that allocates and distributes money amongst
student groups.

*Innovation*: We work to seed, support and scale innovation at and beyond
MIT, connecting students and building community. Last semester we built a
prototype student lounge (26-110) and gave out 10,000 bananas, started MIT
Innovation week, ran a hackathon to improve student life, and hosted
roboticists from Iraq. We make things happen.

*Involvement*: A committee that explores ways to involve students in the
UA, bring their ideas and opinions into the policy creation process, and
develop community within the UA through planning events.

*Marketing*: A committee that brands and advertises what the Undergraduate
Association does and assists other committees in interfacing with
undergraduates.

*Public Affairs:* The UA Public Affairs Committee is MIT’s liaison between
our academic community and the city of Cambridge. Our objectives are to
inform and engage students in local as well as nationwide and international
politics. We do so through setting up active communication between the city
of Cambridge and bringing political events to campus to inspire social
cognizance that can be supplemental and even necessary in pursuing our
every day endeavors. We also seek to keep the student body informed about
current politics through the TerraByte - a Facebook based news platform
that summarizes the top 5 news stories of the week.

*Student Support & Wellness*: The Committee on Student Support & Wellness
is committed to representing the undergraduate community in matters of
wellbeing. These matters include but are not limited to mental health
concerns, sexual assault, and academic difficulties. Examples of projects
for the coming year are advocating for increased tutoring, providing free
sanitary hygiene products on campus, and installing a mural in the hallway
of MIT Mental Health & Counseling. Committee members are encouraged to work
on projects that they are passionate about and are welcome to start and
lead new projects with the aid and direction of committee chairs.

*Sustainability*: Do you have a passion for composting? Do you love
thrifting and upcycling items? Are you committed to reducing your carbon
footprint? If you answered yes to one or more of these, then apply to join
UA Sustainability today!

*Tea with Teachers*: Tea with Teachers is a student driven initiative
aiming to bridge the gap between students and professors. We interview MIT
professors over tea and film the conversation, later publishing it to
YouTube for the MIT community to view. The casual atmosphere and fun
interview questions humanizes the professors we interview.

*Technology*: A committee that develops the technology necessary for the
Undergraduate Association to function, and explores new technological
innovations to enhance student life
