Dear Undergraduates,

I hope you all had great summers and enjoyed the first day of classes. To the Class of 2022, on behalf of the Undergraduate Association, welcome to MIT!

Over the summer student leaders and administrators across campus were hard at work and we are excited to share some updates with you if you haven’t heard already. In the near future a new at-cost grocery store, TechMart, will be opening on campus on the second floor of Walker Memorial in Rebecca’s Café. Additionally, SwipeShare will be continuing this year. If you are on a meal plan, donate guest meal swipes to a pool that is available for students in need through SwipeShare here<https://mycard.mit.edu/student/local_donate.php>. If you are a student facing food insecurity, please visit an S3 dean in 5-104, or if you are a graduate student reach out to Dean Naomi Carton at naomic at mit.edu<mailto:naomic at mit.edu>. Moving forward we are working to allow students to donate regular meal swipes as well.

Last year we piloted an on-demand shuttle system. We are excited to inform you that this semester the on-demand shuttle will continue and in addition the Boston East fixed route shuttle will extend to coincide with the on demand schedule daily until 1:00 AM. If you have any questions about how to use the on-demand shuttle please go here<http://web.mit.edu/facilities/transportation/faqs/shuttle_faq.html#get>.

As many of you know by now, over the summer the Committee on the Undergraduate Program (CUP) approved an experiment involving the entire Class of ‘22. The proposal involves allowing students in the Class of ‘22 to take up to three science GIR classes on P/NR regardless of when they are taken, while maintaining P/NR in the first semester. Moving forward student leaders and administrators will be engaging with the student body and other stakeholders to hear your feedback. Look out for information regarding ways you can provide feedback!

The MIT app now includes a button for Student Support on the lower right corner. This button will connect you with support resources and assists in guidance when you aren’t sure where to go for help. We encourage you all to check it out!

If you would like to work on improving student life at MIT through projects like these, we hope you will consider joining the UA! We will be sending out applications for all committees on Monday. All undergraduates are also welcome to join us at our first Council meeting on Wednesday, September 12th at 7:30 PM in W20-400. Please look out for an email with the application and feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

Love,

Alexa Martin
