Dear Undergrads,
We hope you have enjoyed the first weeks of the semester!
Please give us your feedback on advising via this brief survey:
http://mit.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6s2WT9Az72e7Hud
This will help us make better recommendations to administration and
departments. 5*0* students will receive TechCash prizes!
As we pass Add Date, please take a moment to check your syllabi to resolve
potential conflicts and violations. Although the semester is in full swing,
it is important to confirm that your syllabi follow the guidelines
especially before it becomes an immediate problem during finals week.
There are rules governing when and how tests and assignments are given near
the end of the semester. Please check if your classes comply with MIT’s
rules for end-of-term tests and assignments. Your professors might not be
aware of these rules! Here are a few key examples:
• No exams are allowed after May 11th
• For classes with finals, no assignments can be due after May 11th
• For classes without finals, one assignment can be due between May 11th
and May 17th
• Take-home finals must be open-book and open-note
• For half-term subjects, only one assignment can be due between March
19th and March 23rd (the final week of half term subjects)
If you think one of your classes is breaking a rule, there are several
steps that you can take. If you are comfortable doing so, you can talk to
the professor directly. You can also report the violation anonymously to
the UA or to the Chair of the Faculty. Please reach out as soon as
possible. Late in the semester, violations become increasingly difficult to
resolve in a manner that is fair to everyone.
To report a violation to the UA, please visit http://ua.mit.edu/
policy/violations/
To report a violation to the Chair of the Faculty, please email
exam-termregs at mit.edu
If you have any questions, please email violations at mit.edu.
Thanks for taking the time to check your syllabi. Hopefully, we can help if
there are any issues. Please see below for a summary of the violation rules
for undergraduate classes.
Good luck with the rest of the semester.
