Dear Undergraduates,
I hope everyone enjoyed IAP and the first day of classes! Many students have expressed that the Saferide can sometimes be unreliable, particularly late at night. Over the past few months students and staff have been working very hard to solve this problem, and we are very excited to announce that a new on-demand shuttle system will pilot beginning on Monday, February 12th.
The on-demand shuttle system will run from 11:00 pm - 2:30 am on Sunday through Wednesday, and 11:00 pm - 3:30 am on Thursday through Saturday, replacing the current Saferide system during those hours. The last call for a ride will be 15 minutes before the end of service. During all other hours of the week the Saferide will run as it normally would.
In the new on-demand system students can request transportation to and from any location within the designated Saferide service zone<http://web.mit.edu/facilities/transportation/shuttles/schedules/OnDemand-zone.pdf>. Only members of the MIT community can use the TransLoc Rider mobile app<http://translocrider.com/> or online<https://ondemand.transloc.com/> service to request, however, you can request a ride for multiple people who do not necessarily have to be members of the MIT community. Each new Saferide on-demand van can hold 14 riders and will function similar to an Uber pool system. If you have any feedback about the pilot, please email Saferide-feedback at mit.edu.
You can read more about this new system here<http://web.mit.edu/facilities/transportation/faqs/shuttle_faq.html#get> and read step-by-step instructions on how to get started with the TarnsLoc program. If you have any additional questions please feel free to reach out to the Saferide manager at 617-253-2997 from 5:00 pm to the end of service, or myself.
Love,
Alexa Martin
