Dear Undergraduates,
tldr; If you would like to become a UA Officer, please apply here <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfamJrPRLoETxAqkwV0oRH8QuXF0Ghh8A7JhyOgKbYciXtAiQ/viewform?usp=sf_link> by this Friday at 5pm.
Now that elections have concluded, Alexa, the Vice President-Elect, and I are eager to begin building our officer team for the 2016-2017 academic year. In order to implement change and advocate for students, we will need a passionate and qualified team, so we hope you consider joining us in the Undergraduate Association. Serving as Secretary, Treasurer, Chief of Staff, or Assistant Officer on Diversity provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with students, faculty, administrators, and staff to improve the undergraduate experience at MIT. We hope to create a dedicate team that is representative of our diverse student body and is passionate about student led change.
Below is a brief description of each officer position. In addition, all officers have the opportunity to take on projects and initiatives of their own choosing.
Secretary helps support the general operations of the organization and takes minutes at all meetings. In addition, the secretary develops and maintains communication channels within the organization and with all undergraduates.
Treasurer oversees all budgeting and spending of the organization and works to ensure that the UA Finboard allocates funds fairly and effectively. The Treasurer also works with other UA Officers and administrators to examine MIT's finances and ensure that all student groups are receiving adequate resources.
Chief of Staff is tasked with appointing undergraduate nominees to all institute committees, faculty committees, and ad hoc committees throughout the year. Additionally, the Chief of Staff is responsible for assisting the President and VP in policy work surrounding student issues.
Assistant Officer on Diversity meets regularly with senior administrators and student leaders to develop ongoing diversity and inclusion initiatives. The Assistant Officer on Diversity also serves as an advisor to the UA Community committee and engages with student groups to ensure they feel welcome and supported at MIT.
If you are interested in becoming a UA Officer (Secretary, Treasurer, Chief of Staff or Assistant Officer on Diversity) please apply here <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfamJrPRLoETxAqkwV0oRH8QuXF0Ghh8A7JhyOgKbYciXtAiQ/viewform?usp=sf_link> by 5pm on Friday, April 28th.
If you are more interested in serving the UA as a committee chair, keep an eye out for a separate application, to be released in the coming weeks.
All the best,
Sarah Melvin
