Imagining the Future of the Library

*tl;dr* Come to a discussion about libraries tomorrow afternoon!

Dear Undergrads,

The MIT Libraries are thinking about the future. Over the course of this
year, they are reexamining their role at the Institute and discussing how
the Libraries should adapt in a world of Google and Wikipedia and
BitTorrent, but also of paywalls, restrictive copyright, and publishing
conglomerates. The goal is to articulate a vision that will guide the
Libraries in the coming years as they consider changes to the services they
offer, the spaces they provide, and the materials they facilitate access to
— all things that will impact current and future generations of students.

We'd like to ask the student body to participate in this discussion,
starting with a pair of open forums this month. These forums present a
venue for students to help shape the Libraries' vision from the early
stages. It's a chance to discuss how you use the library, but also to think
about what students of the future will want. It's an opportunity to come up
with ideas on how the Libraries can build better tools for search and
sharing, better negotiate access to materials that students need, better
lend their expertise to student projects, and better offer spaces for
students to work, collaborate, even play. We hope to see you there.

The forums will be held:

*This Thursday, March 3*
*4 to 5:30pm*
*4-270* ‒ bit.ly/1LuY2m8

*Tuesday, March 15*
*3:30 to 5pm*
*4-270* ‒ bit.ly/21743qX

RSVPs via the links above are appreciated, but not necessary. Both forums
are open to both undergraduate and graduate students. There will be cookies.

Sincerely,
Benjamin, Sophie, and Nick
