[UA Sustainability] Response to MIT's Climate Action Plan + Q&A with VP Maria Zuber

Dear Undergraduates,

A few weeks ago, President Reif and his team released MIT’s Climate Action
Plan. This plan outlines three main points: MIT’s stance on climate change,
past efforts, and future direction. MIT’s acknowledgement of climate change
and the necessity to action in a swift and effective manner is a huge step
forward and UA Sustainability very much support it. We also acknowledge
that parts of the plan still remain unclear or uncertain to many in the
undergraduate student body. Due of this concern, we are working to answer
these questions and involve undergraduates in as much of the plan as
possible. From meetings with President Reif, VP of Research Maria Zuber,
Office of Sustainability Director Julie Newman, ESI Director Jonathan
Fernadeaz, and Deputy Executive VP Tony Sharon, UA has asked many of the
questions brought up in the initial stage of the plan release, specifically
focusing on how the plan was created, why the decisions were made, and what
the future steps will be.

We want to be a part of the change in the coming months at MIT and we hope
you as students and members of the MIT community will join us in this
process. As always, please reach out to UA Sustainability with any
questions, concerns, or comments on what you would like to see us address
in the coming months. We love feedback on how to serve the MIT community.
As one of our first steps, we are hosting a Q&A Session on Climate Change
and MIT’s Climate Action plan with VP of Research Maria Zuber (Details
below). Professor Zuber was instrumental in the creation of the CAP and can
provide answers as to how the plan was made and the steps MIT will be
taking in the future. We hope you will join us to learn more about MIT
Climate Action plan.

UA Sustainability Committee is hosting an information panel session with
Vice President of Research Maria Zuber to discussion MIT’s Climate Action
Plan. We will share highlights of the the plan and its future goals with a
30 minute Q&A session directed to Professor Zuber and UA Sustainability
concerning the plan or other campus sustainability related topics.
