IT'S THE LAST WEEK OF UA SUSTAINABILITY'S DORM ELECTRICITY COMPETITION!

*CURRENT STANDINGS:*

Congratulations to *McCormick* and *Burton Connor* for all the spirit
point* pictures they've been posting this past week. Congratulations to
*Simmons* and *Baker* for continuing to dominate the electricity savings.

This graph compares energy used per person per day in each dorm over March
2014 to energy used per person per day in each dorm from April 2nd to April
16th, 2015. You want a bar above the x-axis (Congratulations to Simmons and
Baker).
Some of the more dramatic changes might be due to changes in your dorm's
facilities that go beyond students switching their lights off (looking at
you, Simmons and Random). We're not sure; we're just reporting the data.* If
you have a credible idea for what changed in the past year and send it
to talktoDEC at mit.edu <talktoDEC at mit.edu>, we'll give you spirit points. *In
the meantime, try your hardest to change your kWh per day in the next week!
We'll let you know how you did.

*Earn Spirit Points for your Dorm: *

THURSDAY! Fifteen points each to whomever shows up. Chances for talk of
electricity, free*Veggie Galaxy*, and prizes.

Email talktoDEC at mit.edu with a picture of you doing any of the following
things, we will award 7 spirit points! We encourage multiple
submissions--the more sustainability the better. (Photos will be posted on
our Facebook page <https://www.facebook.com/MITdormelectricity>.)

   - Take a picture of you *filling a reusable water bottle*
   - Take a picture of you *unplugging something *(Say goodbye to vampire
   electricity!)
   - Take a picture of you *reusing your bag at the store*
   - Using the Green Bean Recycling Machine in the Student Center (1st
   floor, near the stairs)
   - *Composting* on campus, in the dining hall
   - *Planting something* in your room
   - ...or any other random act of sustainability that comes to mind!

*Save Electricity:*
We also score the dorms based on their energy usage. You can help your dorm
to reduce its energy consumption by doing any of the following.

   - Wash laundry with cold water and wait until you have a full load
   - *Unplug* your empty mini-fridge
   - Use a *power strip* for your electronics and turn it off at night.
   Avoid leaving charged electronics plugged in!
   - Take *shorter showers*
   - *Exercise* *outside* instead of using the treadmill
   - Turn off the lights

*Why? *

   - It's good for the planet
   - Dorm glory!
   - Individuals with spirit points will have a chance at winning prizes in
   a raffle at the end of the competition. Earn more spirit points, earn more
   raffle tickets.

There are 4* days left*, and it's up to *you *to make a *difference.*
