Dear Undergraduates:
Two years ago, the Undergraduate Association (UA) and the Graduate Student
Council (GSC) formed a joint advisory committee, the Presidential
Transition Advisory Cabinet (PTAC), to serve and advise MIT President
Rafael Reif during the period of his transition. With the success of PTAC,
President Reif commissioned the formation of the Presidential Advisory
Cabinet (PAC) as a sustaining student advisory body. The body, now coming
upon its second term, consists of four undergraduate students and four
graduate students (including the Presidents of the Graduate Student Council
and the Undergraduate Association who serve as ex-officio members). The
cabinet acts in a purely advisory capacity on various issues concerning the
student body through the course of the year.
Prospective members of PAC will be nominated jointly by the UA’s and GSC’s
nomination boards and will be confirmed directly by President Reif. Members
will be expected to represent the student body knowledgeably and
objectively as well as speak on a vast collection of topics relating to MIT
policy. The application and interview process seeks to identify the most
well-informed, thoughtful, interested, and diverse candidates. Service on
PAC requires an exceptional sense of personal responsibility and commitment
to the student body and the Institute-at-large. Members serve one-year
terms starting September 1st.
The UA is now accepting applications to the Presidential Advisory Cabinet
until next Sunday (July 6th) at 11:59 PM. Applications will then be
screened by the UA Nominations Committee, and interviews will be conducted
the following through mid-July.
The application to join the PAC can be found here

The PTAC website can be found here
<http://web.mit.edu/committees/ptac/reports.html> and the report for the
2012-2013 term can be found here

The Presidential Advisory Cabinet represents an excellent opportunity for
our student community to be involved with Institute policies and work with
President Reif.
Thank you for your time,
Doug Coughran
Chief Of Staff, UA
