Hi All,

My name is David Chang (Course 6, '12) and I'm the UA Chief of Staff,
responsible for student representatives to the MIT Faculty Committees, and I
wanted to extend to you an invitation to
join<http://ua.mit.edu/join/institute_committees/> a
Faculty Committee, where many key decisions are made.

The HASS changes <http://web.mit.edu/ecs/>, the Budget Task
Force<http://web.mit.edu/instituteplanning/> were
written by these committees. They also advises the Corporation (MIT's Board
of Directors) and the administration; They have oversight over others, such
as S^3, DAPER, DSL. Many of these committees have student representatives
and we are taking applicants.

There are many benefits of joining a committee:

   1. You will be working with MIT faculty members, who are world-class
thinkers and exposure to them is part of why we are all here.
   2. MIT is a large system with many moving parts; thinking about how to
improve it without unintended consequences is a skill that engineers, policy
makers, and scientists all have to think about.
   3. Free Food. All student representatives will be invited to UA and other
dinner events. Moreover, some committees serve lunch.
   4. You have an opportunity to shape this institute and to make it better.
The range of committees is so varied, everyone can find something that they
are passionate about and to make an impact.

As a note, the full process happens in the spring when all positions are
open; listed below are the open positions. Nonetheless, these are great
opportunities; I consider many of these committees critical and any
committee sets you up for the high profile committees which interact with
the Corporation and administrators for next year. I'll be reaching out you
all in the spring when all positions are open.
