We have several mid-term vacancies on Institute Committees to fill, as well
as positions on new committees [*note additions of SOCR and SAO Search
Committee]*. Please look over the information below and apply for a position
to the UA Nominations Committee by *Monday, February 28 at 8 p.m.*

1. *Committee on Student
Life*<http://studentlife.mit.edu/about/initiatives/csl>:
CSL deals with issues related to student housing, dining, activities,
athletics, and space. You can ask current
representatives<ua-csl-reps at mit.edu>of the committee more about their
work on CSL.

2. *Student Life Orientation Programs and Experiences Committee*:
SLOPE develops the schedule of programs and events for Orientation 2011, and
evaluate the programs for future Orientations.

3. *First-Year Experience Committee* (new): FYE discusses a comprehensive
program for first year students to help them transition to MIT. FYE oversees
SLOPE.

4. *Committee on Discipline <http://web.mit.edu/committees/cod/>: *COD
reviews cases of alleged misconduct and has the power to penalize students.
Discretion and professionalism are highly valued. You can ask current
representatives <ua-cod-reps at mit.edu> of the committee more about their
experiences on the committee (specific committee work is confidential).

5. Committee on Undergraduate Admissions and Financial
Aid<http://web.mit.edu/committees/faculty/Rosters/cuafa.pdf>:
CUAFA reviews changes to undergraduate admissions and financial aid at the
Institute. You can ask current representatives <ua-cuafa-reps at mit.edu> of
the committee about their experiences on the committee (specific committee
work is confidential).

6. *Orientation Committee* (new): the Orientation Committee is a new
committee charged with evaluating orientation for 2012 and beyond. There
will be six students on the committee in addition to faculty and staff.


7. [addition] *SAO Assistant Director Search Committee*: the Student
Activities Office is looking for a new assistant director and is seeking
student input on the decision.

8. [addition] *Subcommittee on the Communication
Requirement<http://web.mit.edu/commreq/socr.html>
*: SOCR oversees approvals of all CI subjects, as well as policy changes to
the CI requirement. You can ask current
representatives<ua-socr-reps at mit.edu>of the committee about their
experiences.
