Hi all,

Short version:
Apply for PLUS and Leadershape by Friday!

http://ua.mit.edu/committees/csl/plus/

http://web.mit.edu/leadershape/

Slightly longer version:

I want to draw your attention to two opportunities with application
deadlines coming on Friday: the UA Committee on Student Life's PLUS
program and Leadershape.

Leadershape is an immersion program that runs for 6 days over IAP;
PLUS matches upperclassmen mentors with first year students, running
over the course of the year. I think that these programs are quite
different, but both bring attention to an important matter: how do we
develop leaders for the future at MIT?

It is never too soon to be thinking about personal development,
particularly in the context of leadership; it is opportunities such as
these that I wish I had taken advantage of earlier while here. So I
personally encourage you to apply.

Details for both programs are below. It's worth noting that both are
free!

Best,

Noah

Applications to be a mentee or mentor in the UA's Program in
Leadership and Undergraduate Success are due this Friday! The
applications should only take a few minutes to fill out, and the
connections you make and the skills you learn in PLUS will serve you
well beyond your years at the Institute.

See the PLUS website (http://ua.mit.edu/committees/csl/plus/) for more
information about PLUS and what benefits you would get as a mentee or
mentor.

See below for the mentee and mentor applications. Please keep your
responses to the short answer questions brief - 100 words max per
question. Applications must be emailed it to mentorship at mit.edu by
this Friday, October 24 at 5:00pm.

Good luck!

- UA Committee on Student Life

Quotes from previous participants:

"I was looking for a week off of life, a week to simply have fun and
enjoy my time, maybe learn something new. But when I joined
Leadershape, I had more than just that: I had a week where all my
strains where washed away, all my limitations removed; I was able to
think without boundaries, picture and shape my future the way I wanted
it, and learn how to make it real and down to earth. Basically,
Leadershape helped me clear my vision of where I want to go and how.
Plus, I met a lot of interesting people, many of whom are now my
friends, and are the people who in the future can help me reach my
goals. So if you're looking for that fun week like me, trust me, get
in Leadershape and you'll get that and then some". ~ LS 2008 participant

"No classroom can teach what I learned at LeaderShape. I still find
myself looking back at it as the most valuable experience at MIT." ~
LS 2005 participant

"LeaderShape changed how I view the world and people in it." ~ LS 2006
participant
