Dear Undergraduates,
On behalf of the Search Committee for the next Dean for Undergraduate
Education, it is our pleasure to let you know that we are interested in
soliciting your feedback. In the next few months, we will be reaching out
to students, faculty, and staff to get the MIT Community's perspective on:
* What characteristics the next DUE should have?
* What priorities should the next DUE address?
* Suggested nominees?
We suspect that you probably have questions on what exactly the Dean of
Undergraduate Education does (as we did too!), so we've summarized some of
the Dean's functions below. Feel free to check out the DUE homepage for
more info: http://web.mit.edu/due/.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to forward these to
the student representatives at due_search at mit.edu. If you are not
comfortable in sharing your comments with the student representatives, you
may contact Professor Eric Grimson, Chair of the DUE Search Committee, at
welg at csail.mit.edu.
Yours Truly,
Danielle Ayodele Hinton, G, EECS

The Dean for Undergraduate Education impacts and coordinates the strategic
activities of several major offices supporting the administration of
undergraduate affairs including the admissions office, career services,
registrars office, the office of minority education and student financial
services. The DUE also has a special role in coordinating the educational
program for first-year students. So if you're interested in the policies of
admissions or the financial aid office, or of the direction of the OME, you
may want to voice your thoughts on the sort of person you'd like as the new
Dean for Undergraduate education.
