Dear Undergraduates,

In light of the recent subpoenas issued by the Recording Industry
Association of America (RIAA), we believe it is important for students
to understand their legal rights and the legal liabilities associated
with file sharing.

The following link (http://web.mit.edu/ua/www/legal_rights.pdf) will
provide you information on questions such as:

1. What am I legally liable for in regards to the distribution, sharing,
and downloading of files?
2. What are the RIAA lawsuits all about?
3. Why is MIT getting subpoenas from the Recording Industry of America?
4. What will most likely happen to me if I get a subpoena from the
Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)?
5. Where can I go to learn more about protecting my privacy and civil
liberties?

In addition to your legal rights, the UA Student Committee on
Educational Policy (SCEP) will be running a "Know Your Rights" Campaign
to inform you about your academic rights as we enter the last weeks of
the semester. SCEP will have information on what constitutes academic
violations and end of term regulations in Lobby 10 all week, as well as
a free lunch on Thursday at the Student Center at 12 PM.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to
contact me.

Sincerely,

Harel M. Williams
President, Undergraduate Association
