Hi everyone,
This will be my last book-related email sent to Grogospeak! It's kind of long but there's a lot of good stuff in here, so please at least skim the bolded parts.
If you are interested at all in the book, make sure to join tnq-staph at mit.edu here (https://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/tnq-staph). If you are not interested in the book, you don't have to do anything! After today all the mail on Grogospeak should just relate to photography club related stuff (although the activity and sport photography opportunities will go to Staph).
I meant to send this out on Saturday afternoon, but I got busy. Anyway, for those of you who missed it, all the Manboard members introduced themselves and talked for a few minutes about their responsibilities for the book.
We also laid out the group meeting schedules - now that we're starting to work on Technique 2012, the editors of individual sections will be meeting at times throughout the week to get work done. These meeting times are not set in stone - the editors obviously have the final say, but they can be flexible in what time they meet.
Design - Biyeun Buczyk, biyeun at mit.edu - Sundays 3pm
Photo - Laura Gabrovsek, lmg at mit.edu - Mondays 8pm
Publicity - Xinyi Zhang, xinyi at mit.edu - Friday 6pm
Journal - Ioana Zelko, zelko at mit.edu - Wednesday 8pm
Activities - Carolina Kaelin, caro14 at mit.edu - (Not scheduled yet)
Sports - Biyeun Buczyk (see below!), biyeun at mit.edu - Wednesday 6pm
As you might gather from the fact that we're starting work so early, there's a lot of work to be done. Each of these sections have a Manboard member overseeing them (except Sports!), but they need lots of help.
In a few weeks we'll be holding Junior Manboard elections! This is not meant to be exclusive (i.e. you can still contribute if you are not Manboard/Junior Manboard) but it gives we Manboarders some peace of mind to know that there is someone else who is committed to helping us. Junior Manboard members are listed in the back of the book, have a vote during the full Manboard elections in the Spring, and get a free book (other staphers who contribute a lot or have a photo published also get a free book). We have a list of the open positions posted on the door to the studio.
The only special case is the Sports Editor - we don't have one! Biyeun is filling in for the time being, but we'll also be electing a full-Manboard Sports Editor. It will be more responsibility than a Junior position, but you'll have the opportunity to shape a large and very important section of the book. You'll also get a key to the photo cabinets, meaning you can check out equipment whenever you want!
In conclusion: if any of the above sections interest you, show up to that meeting! It can be a really low commitment thing, or you can take on a lot of responsibility and really help shape how Technique 2012 turns out. Biyeun and I are really not totalitarian dictators imposing our will on you, and we love working with enthusiastic and creative people.
Whew! That was a lot of text, but this should be the last one for quite a while. Let me (or another Manboard member) know if you have any questions, and I'll see you all this Saturday!
Your photophilic EIC,
Nick
