Hello everyone,

It's the end of the fall term, and we are fast approaching Technique's
busiest month: January. This means it's time to be very aware of
deadlines so that your photos get in the book.

Before we get to the deadlines, I have two special announcements:
---
1. Digital: SUBMIT in RAW--If you want to propose edits to your
photos, then include TIFFs, jpgs, or xmp files in addition to your raw
files.
2. Film: Please, if you are using TNQ's film, you must leave your
negatives at the office in a folder inside the 2011 filing cabinet. If
you are scanning (at 4000 dpi) and submitting edited versions, we ask
that you submit these versions as DNGs or TIFFs---but this does not
exempt you from the Negatives Stay In The Office rule. Don't worry,
you can take them home after January.
---

Now, the deadlines:

GENERAL PHOTO DEADLINES

Photo Deadline #2: Saturday 18 December 2010 at 23:59:59 EST
In an effort to keep the photo editing process smooth, we are
encouraging everyone to submit photos before leaving for break.
Please, please do this if you can. The closer we get to January, the
more stressed we will be, and we may miss your super cool awesome
photo if you submitted a metric fuckton right at the final deadline.

The FINAL Deadline: Friday 7 January 2011 at 23:59:59 EST
This is it. We will not be accepting photos for the 2011 yearbook
after today. This deadline is for both digital and film.

FILM DEADLINES

Second to Last Color Film Drop-Off: Monday 20 December 2010 at
17:00:01 EST
Get your color film in before break! We will all be happier editors if
we don't have to look at a sudden fuckpile of last-minute film in
January.

The FINAL Color Film Drop-Off: Tuesday 4 January 2011 at 17:00:02 EST
We will not be dropping off color film for the 2011 yearbook after
today. If you have color film that you want to get in by the January
7th deadline, you are responsible for doing this yourself.

------------------------

How to Submit to TNQ:

1. All photos must be submitted as RAW files (.NEF, .CR2, etc.) or as
Negatives/Slides.

2. You may provide suggestions for post processing your images (crop,
contrast, color balance, etc.) by including .xmp files with your RAW
files. You may also include processed jpegs or tiffs with the same
names as their corresponding RAW files.

3. Save all digital photos on CameraDump11 under a folder with your
name or short name. You can access CameraDump11 remotely or from one
of the office machines.

Accessing CameraDump11 remotely:
Unfortunately, due to changes with the server, you can only access the
dump remotely from a Mac with AFP. (Or you can use scp)

In Finder, click Go > Connect to Server... (⌘ + k ). Type in the
server address bar:
"afp://technique.mit.edu/CameraDump11/"

The username is "staph"---ask (do not email) someone on manboard for
the password.

Once you're in, copy a folder with your name from your machine on to
the server (you won't have edit access unless you're on an office
machine, so creating folders on the server won't work).

-------------------------

That is all. Best of luck. And congrats to (almost) finishing another
term of MIT.

Lovingly,
-Biyeun, your photo ed.
