[Grogospeak] Photo Submission Deadline #1

Hi everyone,

In an effort to make the photo submission process less stressful, I am
creating a mid-year(ish) submission deadline in addition to the usual
December/January deadline.

On **11:59 pm September 30, 2010** I will save a copy of CameraDump11.
I will add a text file, listing which folders I copied, inside of
everyone's folders. Come December/January when the next deadline rolls
around, I will only check for new images in folders not listed in the
text file.

Between now and the deadline, please gather up as many of your photos
from this year and put them in your folder in CameraDump11. I will
send reminder emails throughout September to keep you motivated! Yay!

I would like to add a couple notes on film:

1. Please mark stored negative sleeves with your initials, date, and a
short description.

2. After scanning a set of negatives from a sleeve/roll, please
include the date and description written on the sleeve in the name of
the folder containing those images on CameraDump11.

Finally, here are my guidelines for digital photos:

1. All photos must be submitted as RAW files (.NEF, .CR2, etc.).
Note: If most of your photos were not shot RAW up until now, start
shooting RAW and submit unmodified versions of whatever came out of
your camera before you came to your senses. Anything shot after this
email should be RAW...grrr.

2. You may provide suggestions for post processing your images (crop,
contrast, color balance, etc.) by including .xmp files with your RAW
files. You may also include processed jpegs or tiffs with the same
names as their corresponding RAW files.

I will probably go over these guidelines a few more times, especially
once we have froshlings (yay!).

Lovingly,
-Biyeun, your photo ed.

P.S. Don't know how to upload your photos? Here's how:

WINDOWS: Start > Run... (windows key + r ) and type
"\\technique.mit.edu\CameraDump11\"

MAC OS-X: In Finder, click Go > Connect to Server... (⌘ + k ). Type
in the server address bar:
"smb://technique.mit.edu/CameraDump11/"

LINUX (like Debathena): In Nautilus, go to Go > Location... "smb://technique.mit.edu/CameraDump11/
"
LINUX (otherwise): You don't need graphics. Use the terminal. I know
you know how.

The username is "staph"---ask someone on manboard for the password.

Once you're in, copy a folder with your name from your machine onto
the server (you won't have edit access unless you're on an office
machine, so creating folders on the server won't work).

P.P.S. RAW. I. WANT. IT. RAW.
