While a FB junkie myself, I happen to know Tango junkies who REFUSE to be on FB due to privacy concerns, but, thank you for the link, I did go there.

I debated for awhile about whether to send out a certain post because I wasn't sure if it would be appreciated.

Most newer dancers automatically turn to Facebook (which they are already using and which teachers are encouraging them to use to learn about events). Most discussions in my local tango community occur on Facebook, and use of our local email listserv is almost an afterthought. To be honest, I'm not even using email all that much anymore since I'm deleting most of the emails (necessary notifications that I don't really need to read).

I think the tango community in the U.S. has matured a lot such that much of the information that we questioned years ago has been disseminated. At least to us mature dancers.

I don't get the sense that there as much debate or deep discussion as seen on Tango-L. After all, it's harder to be more critical of a bad dj'ing in your own community in public. I think that was one of the beauties of Tango-L. Many seem to follow someone named “Terpsi”, who started as a blogger and is now teaching.

I happen to have inherited a tango discussion group started by a local dancer who has since moved. If folks would be interested in experimenting with it as a potential Tango-L ish site, that's fine with me. I really just try to keep announcements from popping up. Here's the site if you want to join and start discussion. For me, a successful experiment would be encouraging new people to participate in discussions. Folks could even do a throwback Thursday from the archives. Hah!
