I'm trying to understand this... the dance, the teaching and how it may or may not fit the social dance.

This is a class linked to a Milonga in Moscow Russia..the attendees all appear young and athletic if body build is any indication.  The teacher/performers are showing the attendees their best moves (I imagine)..a resource to garner ideas and movements of their own from.
OK..I'm taking classes in traditional salon tango where everything is done from a close-embrace and it's few variations.... I'm looking at the communication between the performing couple and wondering where / how is the lead and follow being executed?  They stand back and look at each other...then, the male moves his head/arms (?) in one direction indicating / suggesting a reply from the woman...she embellishes and awaits the next suggestion?  I estimate that less than half is lead by the body within an open stance and that the woman is often 'on her own' so to speak? That each dancer has a collection of moves that could fit and so they throw in differnt movements and try to suprise and amuse each other...that the lead comes from observing the other and at times from the momentum of the movement of the male.  Has anyone written a treatment on this...what's going on? ..or is it all a mystery to be guarded and be a source of further mystification?
I'm just thinking out loud....any comments leading to illumination of the mechanics of this dance, would be appreciated.
