[Tango-L] Assassination Tango

This is part of an interview made to Duvall and Pedraza , when they came to Buenos Aires on year 2003, to promote their movie Assasination Tango.

So, actually, Duvall is ... 79 years old, and Luciana ...38 years old.

- From whom did you learnt ?
-Duvall:from the country, the young people. I remember the first time I danced tango in buenos aires : I look in amazement to the tanguero Finito, and Virulazo that told me : " Veeery good".
-Luciana: Duvall taught me. His style is not melodramatic. I compare him with Piazzolla, like a Tai Chi, a process of meditation.

-What things you do not like from the tango community (in Buenos Aires) ?
-Duvall: there is a little percentage of people that dances tango.Therefore is a kind of hermetic culture, and they are all very critics.

Luciana: - They made destructive critics. Contrarywise, on the USA, do whatever you do , they will say " I am so proud of you". And when something does not like them, do not say " how funny!" , instead they keep silent and that is the answer. On tango local community (Buenos Aires), you will not find someone that will tell you " I am so proud of you , how fine you do your dancing !"
 

Duvall: - Well, that can tell you on the beginning/your first steps  of your practice.... 

Luciana: -Yes, but as soon as you became a menace, they do not say it anymore and in turn will say " I taught her !"

-¿De quiénes aprendieron? 

Duvall: - Del país, de la gente joven. Recuerdo la primera vez que bailé tango en Buenos Aires: yo miraba asombrado al tanguero Finito, y Virulazo que me decía, "Muuy bien". 

Luciana: - A mí me enseñó Duvall. Su estilo no es melodramático. Lo comparo con Piazzolla, como un Tai chi, un proceso de meditación. 

-¿Qué cosas no les gustan del ambiente del tango? 

Duvall: -Hay un porcentaje muy pequeño de gente que baila tango. Aquí, es una cultura muy hermética y entonces son todos muy críticos. 

Luciana: - Hacen críticas destructivas. En cambio, en los EE.UU. hagas lo que hagas, siempre te dirán: "Estoy tan orgulloso de vos". Y cuando algo no les gusta no dicen "¡qué rico!", se callan y esa es la respuesta. En el tango, nunca vas a encontrar alguien que te diga: "¡Estoy tan orgulloso de vos, qué bien lo hacés!" 

Duvall: - Bueno, eso te lo pueden decir en un principio.... 

Luciana: -Sí, pero en cuanto te convertís en una amenaza no te lo dicen más y en cambio dirán "¡Yo le enseñé!"
