Mario
What I see is an endless array of show steps especially boleos volcadas
being taught and danced. I don't see very many leaders dancing
traditional
basic tango. I'm talking about feet apart and rarely closing, left arm
pumping, looking down at the floor, bad posture,no axes, talking and
teaching on
the dance floor and a lot of them don't have a clue what tango is all
about, codigos, floor craft, respect.
Another thing I see is they want to learn fast they take a group class
learn a new figure and start leading it 15 minutes later when the milonga
starts. Unfortunately they aren't taught to prefect the step before
taking it
to the milonga.
many of the US and Argentine tango teachers I've seen aren't what I'd
consider qualified teachers. Some of them have only danced for a couple
of
years, haven't got a clue and start teaching. Others are fantastic
dancers but
seem to only teach show moves that shouldn't be danced on a social floor.
With all of this going on the odds are stacked against the poor slob
trying
to learn how to lead tango.
As far as leaders focusing on the music and connection most of them
haven't been taught to dance to the music and a true connection would be
impossible with that's going on in their tango.
I know my opinion is harsh and I tend to be overly critical but I'm
passionate about tango and saddened by what I see it evolving into.
