All this talk of trouble in Tango communities makes me realise just how lucky we've
been in Hong Kong. Tango started here in 1996/97 with 2 couples who started off
trying to work together. They quickly realised they were interested in different
things, separated and each started their own group. Fortunately, their activities
complimented, rather than competed with each other and both groups went from
strength to strength. A few years ago other groups started up and now there are
seven, so it's getting a little crowded. But, as far as I know, there's never been
a single conflict.
I still have my Friday milonga and the leaders of 5 of the other 6 groups come
on a regular basis.
