Christian wrote about his proposed rules for those of us wearing high heels.
Clever solution, but not implementable.
Point well-taken.
That is why there?exists the (social dance) techniques of:
1.) Never lift your foot off the floor on the social dance floor. (except for stepping over your partner's foot) .
2.)Always keep your?heel as close to the floor as possible when stepping backwards (to avoid coming down on someone's instep, like what happened to Christian).? Once the woman starts to move her weight over the leading leg, even if she feels the presence of someone else too close, it is pretty darn near impossible to?switch into reverse and pull her decending weight off of that leg quickly enough to avoid coming down on the other person's foot.
3.) Always follow the line of dance and stay out of the middle of the dance floor. (A lady got stepped on royally just last Saturday. Both couples were in the middle of the dance floor, don't know which person of the other couple got her, but she stopped dancing and just stood there, in pain.? The offending couple was dancing tango with ballroom mixed in, with both people separating, turning independently, then coming back to the embrace, etc.)
4.) Good navigation, of course, is the expected? norm.
Yes, these techniques do require the proper explanation?by the instructor (or whoever is passing along the tip) and proper practicing?by the dancers.
Note: stage tango danced when you have the floor all to yourself is a different animal...pick feet up all you want there.
Just thought you'd like to know.
