Keith,

It's fairly evident from your posts about tango music that you have been conscientious in collecting meaningful data on that subject. However, you may have drawn your conclusions about nuevo dancers (whatever that means) from skewed data. Maybe you need to reevaluate your sampling technique, assuming you have actually conducted some sort formal survey of nuevo dancers. If, on the other hand, your conclusions are based on your own anecdotal observations, then maybe a somewhat less absolute conclusion is in order.

I have drawn a different conclusion from my own observations. My current theory is that pattern vs. improvisation is a factor of experience and necessity, rather than style. I haven't conducted a formal survey, so I won't get too much more into it. But watch yuor sample dancers a little more closely, and keep an open mind.

P.S. The stage performers that I have talked to have said that they don't think consciously about their steps. They have trained to the point that their bodies know what to do. But I haven't tried stage dancing, so who knows if there is any truth in that.

Such doesn't apply to strictly nuevo dancers, I realise. Nuevos - like stage performers - indeed think continually, do steps (no quotation marks) and memorized sequences.
