About six months ago I wrote about the frustrations of a newbe
looking for a partner and trying to learn Tango. Since that time I
have found a partner of sorts. She is always there for the advanced
beginner's class that I now attend. We are supposed to change
partners every ten minutes but there never seems to be enough singles
to change. B and I always seem to be dancing together and lately we
have refused to change partners even-though we can. The other night I
looked her in the eyes to see how she was doing and her eyes were
closed. It was very reassuring to see her eyes closed and I think she
must trust me as a leader. We were able to negotiate a particular
difficult step for our ability and both took great pleasure in
completing it successfully. It was then I decided to have a little
fun with her. I became more aggressive with my movements and more
precise and felt that I was greatly over exaggerating the leading.
She looked up at me and said that she liked the new way I was leading
her. First the eyes closed, then the compliment on the leading and
now, I think I'm starting to learn what Argentine Tango is about.
Naturally, I want to build on this experience and it will require
more time before I'm able to dance how feel, but the bottom line is
I'm feeling better about my dancing and my partner noticed the
feeling. We really enjoy dancing with each other. For what it's worth...
