[Tango-L] Tango in Chicago in october

Dear friends,

we'll be in Chicago in October. I've got a meeting there from saturday 
14th thru wednesday 18th. We might arrive earlier, currently we consider
monday 9th to fly in.

Any recommendations for tango during that period?
Any recommendations for non-tango activities? Does is make sense to 
hire a car for the monday thru friday period and look around the area? 
Great lakes? Nature? Is there something like 'indian summer' in that 
region during that time of the year? How far would we be able to get 
(driving reasonable)?
Any recommendations for hotels in Chicago during that period? (I do 
not fancy classy hotels which just cost an fortune for features I never 
use: I need a quiet, good and clean bed for the night in a safe 
neighbourhood ... btw: is Chicago Chinatown safe as a hotel area???)
