Jaimes was brought into Denver for a four month teaching residence seven
years ago by Heather Morrow. Since then, he has helped to create a very
vibrant and dynamic tango community in Seattle, WA, as well as traveled all
over the world to teach and perform. Between the very best dancers in the
world, he is spoken of and celebrated in most superhuman and sanctified
terms. He was well loved in Denver during his visit in 2000 among beginners
and advanced dancers alike; since then he has become one of the worlds most
beloved tango performers and teachers. He honored us with a visit in May &
July of 06 and many students found him the best teacher theyve
experienced. It is with much excitement and gratitude that we welcome
Jaimes Friedgen to Colorado.
Jaimes Friedgen:
North American tango phenomenon Jaimes Friedgen hails from a family of
dancers and artists and has since early childhood been immersed in a world
of creative movement. With extensive training as a gymnast and a background
in a variety of performing arts, including theater, music, and many forms of
dance, Jaimes came upon tango at the age of fifteen. He has since learned
from and worked with many of the most respected figures in the tango world
and remains unclassifiable, transcendent of style and category. He has spent
several years dancing, teaching, and performing throughout North America,
Europe and Asia, and always continues to explore new territory within the
dance. As one of the most popular teachers in the U.S. today, it is not
surprising that he is often booked more than a year in advance. He is well
respected by his peers for his creativity, musicality and deep insight into
the inner workings of the dance. Countless tango teachers both in the States
and abroad have benefited from studying with Jaimes. He is driven to be a
full time tango teacher by his love of watching people continually grow and
blossom through their exploration of tango, and feels fortunate to be a part
of that process. He is also a dynamic performer, and has brought much
inspiration to dancers everywhere through his rare combination of fluidity,
subtle elegance, and fierce animalistic intensity. His absolute love of
tango is undeniable and shines through every movement he makes and every
word he utters.
ANYONE PLANNING ON TRAVELLING FROM OUT OF TOWN: Please contact me and allow
me to help make your travel plans as easy as possible. The closest airport
hub is in Denver--4 hours away by car. There are many dancers travelling up
here from Denver and car-pooling is an option. If there is a snow storm, the
trip could take longer. Good tires is a most even in good weather. You may
also take the train from Denver to Glenwood and someone can pick you up from
there to car-pool the rest of the way to Aspen (45min); you may also take a
bus directly from the Denver airport into Aspen; you can also fly directly
into Aspen. Here are some current sample fares:
flights directly into Aspen via hotwire:
ASPEN IS SMALL; YOU DO NOT NEED A RENTL CAR IN ASPEN!
$250 from LAX to Aspen
$375 from San Diego
$295 from Portland OR
$214 from Chicago
$234 from New York
$342 from Boston or DC
$328 from Miami
THERE ARE STILL ACCOMODATIONS IN LOCAL DANCERS HOMES, on the couch if not in
your own private room. Call or email me to get on that list. OTHERWISE,
SEARCH THROUGH PRICELINE OR HOTWIRE FOR HOTELS.
There is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas
and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits one self, then
PROVIDENCE moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never
otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision,
raising in ones favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and
material assistance which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.
Whatever you can do , or dream you can begin it. BEGIN IT NOW. BOLDNESS HAD
GENIUS, OWER AND MAGIC IN IT. BEGIN IT NOW.
