Subject: Forecast update
Importance: High

A high wind warning is in effect from 2 pm this afternoon through 2 am Thursday morning

A strong cold front is currently moving into the eastern Great Lakes region this morning. This system looks like it will be responsible for some rather strong and gusty southwesterly winds later this afternoon and into the early evening. Later tonight after the front moves offshore, the winds will become westerly and then northwesterly and remain strong right into the early part of Thursday. There is a possibility by late this afternoon of gusts over 50 mph with any showers moving through the area after 4 pm. After 11 pm as colder air starts to move into the region, we once again could see some gusts in excess of 50 mph, this would likely be after midnight through around 2 am Thursday. Winds will diminish a bit in intensity during the day on Thursday.

Many of trees across the region still have a fair amount of leaves so there is the possibility of downed tree limbs and some drought weakened trees later today and tonight during the period of peak gusts and this could lead to some scattered power outages.

Forecast updated at 9:30 am.

Michael
