Forwarding an email from an MIT student about an ongoing scam..

-----------------------
hi Guys,

I got a call an hour ago from the Massachusetts State Police number claiming that I haven't paid taxes to the IRS and if I don't pay them USD 9000 then they would arrest me in the next 15 minutes. I politely declined to pay them and hung up. I went to the MIT police right after that and talked to the officer-on-duty (Officer Mike Casey). He called this number that I got the call from (Massachusetts State Police one) and cautioned them that their phone number was being misused by these scamsters. The officer requested me to pass the word around to my friends that if you receive any such calls, don't get scared or fall for them.
The officer told me that one of the MIT folks did end up paying a hefty amount to these scamsters and so, while MIT police were working on getting hold of them, it was important to inform the MIT folks about this scam.

Thanks!

Have a good weekend!

Best Regards,
Jay
