Hi everyone,
Friday night (6/9/06), my friends and I were preparing for a cast & crew party
to celebrate a play we just completed. We reserved the 24th floor lounge, and
had the food all laid out on the counter and drinks placed in the fridge. The
fire alarm rang, and all of us went downstairs. When we went back upstairs
after the alarm was cleared, we found that someone (or some people) had stolen
all our food! The door to the lounge was locked, so unfortunately we know
that whomever took the food is a Tang resident.
We're all concerned about this for the following reasons:
1. It's our food. We paid for it and someone just took it out of the room when
clearly they should not. There was no announcement on the mailing list that
food is available in the lounges, so one could NOT assume that that food was
for giving away.
2. Fortunately none of us lost our personal belongings, which unfortunately we
had to leave behind when the fire alarm rang. But it is becoming a concern, and
now none of us feel ok leaving stuff behind in the lounges, even for a short
time as during a fire drill.
3. Grad students aren't supposed to steal other grad students' food. As one of
our friends said, that violates the "grad student rules of conduct."
So I guess the message is:
1. To all the residents: careful with your belongings and food when in the
building lounges.
2. To the person(s) who took our food: not cool. Not cool at all. We really
hope that you will never do such a thing again.
