[StarCluster] building an ami corrupts the original reference machine?

I can't attest to the behavior of StarCluster regarding AMI creation
because I usually do my AMI creation from AWS console. I can say that in
the past I had SSH go down if I created an AMI of a running instance.
Luckily after the AMI was completed and I reboot a few times I got SSH
functionality back without having to mount my EBS backed instance to
another running instance to restore SSH functionality. After that
experience I just stop the instance prior to making an AMI. This of
course only works on EBS backed instances where the stopping them
doesn't result in termination -- also stopping will dump all that you
have stored in instance storage. If rebooting the instance doesn't work
you can look here <http://alestic.com/2011/02/ec2-fix-ebs-root> for
directions on mounting to another running instance to restore functionality.
Good Luck!
