1. As part of the "SIPB Cluedump Series", I will be talking about how
scripts.mit.edu works on Monday at 8:30 PM in 3-133. This talk is
intended for programmers and will go into detail about the internals of
scripts.mit.edu (for example, we will go through the scripts.mit.edu
OpenAFS code modifications in detail). It will not be a gentle
introduction to creating websites using scripts.mit.edu, so I recommend
that you avoid it unless you are interested in technical details about how
scripts.mit.edu works.

2. There will be a brief scripts.mit.edu outage tonight starting at
1:00am. The outage should last no more than about 5 minutes.

We are still working on various hardware and software improvements in
order to increase reliability in response to our multi-hour outage in
July. We will send more information about these improvements once they
are ready.

Title: Technical overview of scripts.mit.edu
Speaker: Jeff Arnold [jbarnold at mit.edu]
Date: Mon Oct 02 20:30:00 EDT 2006
Location: 3-133
Abstract:

The scripts.mit.edu web script service allows individuals and groups to
put CGI scripts (perl, php, python, ruby, scheme, etc) on the web using
nothing more than an Athena account. Integrating this functionality with
Athena presented certain challenges that had to be overcome before the
service could be launched.

In this talk, Jeff Arnold will describe the design and implementation of
the SIPB script services. This talk is intended to be a technical
overview of the internals of the services rather than a gentle
introduction to the services (for documentation intended for potential new
users, see http://scripts.mit.edu).

SIPB's Fall schedule of technical talks is on the web at
http://web.mit.edu/cluedumps (which redirects to a scripts.mit.edu
website, of course).

If you would like to receive announcements about SIPB talks this Fall, you
should add yourself to the Moira list cluedump-announce at mit.edu or e-mail
cluedumps at mit.edu.
