Amir D. Aczel, PhD, mathematician and international bestselling author
In conversation with physicist Stephen Reucroft, PhD
How can the world's biggest atom smasher unlock the secrets of the universe?
In March 2010, scientists at the European Organization for Nuclear Research
broke all records by bashing protons at nearly the speed of light using a
particle accelerator called the Large Hadron Collider. Could the collider
help us find out what happened in the first split seconds after the Big
Bang? Aczel, a popular science writer, was granted exclusive access to the
laboratory where the experiments took place. Join him as he talks with
Reucroft, who was involved in experiments on-site. Book signing to follow.
Seating is limited. Passes available in the Museum lobby beginning at 5:45
p.m. on October 27. Museum members may reserve a limited number of passes in
advance. For more information: mos.org/members. Admission is free thanks to
the generosity of the Lowell Institute.
