Hello,

I am very pleased to announce that the Siegel Teaching Prize for 2009 goes
to graduate student Chihyung Jeon. Chihyung has provided superb support for
all of the instructors for whom he has worked as a TA, and been a supportive
mentor and teacher for many undergraduates. The prize carries a $2,500
award.

In the words of the selection committee:

"Chihyung TA'd for Natasha Schull in her Neuroscience and Society (STS.010)
class in Fall 2008. Natasha praised Chihyung for being well-organized, an
attentive and conscientious grader, and clearly invested in students'
learning. He was extremely helpful with class organizational mechanics and
always arrived on time at lectures to help troubleshoot classroom
technology. Being the first time she taught the class, he provided valuable
input to the design of paper assignments, feedback on course readings (and
alternatives readings that might work better next time), and recommendations
on points to stress in lectures.

In their evaluations, students lauded Chihyung for the style in which he ran
his recitation sections. They gave their highest marks to Chihyung for his
availability outside of class, encouragement of class participation, and
ability to answer questions well."

Thanks also to Roe Smith and Natasha Schull who sat on the Prize Committee,
and to Karen Gardner for administering the process.

Congratulations again to Chihyung!
