The New World and the Preternatural:
17th-century Demonology, Epistemology, and Natural History

Jorge Canizares-Esguerra
Professor of History at University of Texas at Austin

Please join us on Monday, March 6, for an STS Colloquium.  Our 
speaker will be Jorge Canizares-Esguerra, Professor of History at 
University of Texas at Austin. He is the author of the award-winning 
How to Write the History of the New World. Histories, Epistemologies 
and Identities (Stanford, 2001) and "New World, New Stars: Patriotic 
Astrology and the Invention of Indian and Creole Bodies in Spanish 
America, 1600-1650" (American Historical Review, 1999). His talk is 
based on his forthcoming book "Puritan Conquistadors: Iberianizing 
the Atlantic, 1550-1700" (Stanford, September 2006).  The colloquium 
will be held at 4:00 p.m., MIT, E51-095.
