**July is Clean out Your Files Month!

This month, The Working Group Recycling Committee, in partnership with the
Department of Facilities, is again holding our annual paper recycling
drive: Clean Out Your Files Month.

During the July 2005 Clean Out Your Files Month, the mixed paper recycling
total was 70.3 tons, the highest tonnage ever, and a 12 ton jump from the
June 2005 total. This increase supported our goal of a campus-wide
recycling rate of 40% in 2005, and therefore helped MIT win the City of
Cambridge "Go Green Award for Large Businesses" in the category of waste
reduction. Your recycling efforts make a difference!

*The best way to recycle the paper generated from cleaning out your files
is to utilize the blue or grey desk side bins in your office. If you need a
desk side bin, contact <mailto:recycling at mit.edu>recycling at mit.edu, or
purchase one from Office Depot for only $3.00, Item # 373860.

*If you fill up your local bins during your clean up you can,
alternatively, bring your paper recycling to one of many large dedicated
totes that the Department of Facilities has placed in building lobbies all
around campus. For the locations of these bins please see:

"If you can rip it, you can recycle it." For more details on Clean Out Your
Files Month, including guides on what to recycle and what not to recycle,

In conjunction with this event:

The mission of the MIT Working Group Recycling Committee is to develop and
deliver programs that educate administrative and support staff about
recycling, reducing and reusing goods. Efforts include
identifying/addressing gaps in staff understanding about recycling as well
as gaps in recycling resources and creating ways to increase recycling at MIT.
