Hello, all,

You are all cordially invited to attend a panel discussion this
coming Wednesday, 26 January:

Teaching Physics Since WWII: A Panel Discussion
Everyone knows about the Nobel Prizes won by MIT physics professors,
but do you know how the department invented and reinvented new
approaches to introductory physics? Every MIT undergraduate takes
physics, and while some of the basic experiments haven't changed in
150 years, the way the class is taught has been revolutionized. The
last 60 years have seen the most dramatic of these changes to the
landscape of physics education.

Come listen to some of the pioneers in this field engage in a
discussion moderated by Deborah Douglas, MIT Museum Curator of
Science and Technology. Anthony French and John Belcher (Dept. of
Physics) will discuss MIT's contributions to physics education from
the era of Jerrold Zacharias to today's "Active Learning" approach to
education. David Kaiser (Program in Science, Technology, and Society
and Dept. of Physics) will provide a historical overview, linking the
series of events affecting physics classrooms between WWII and the
present day.
Free with Museum admission
3:00 - 4:30pm

best,
Dave
