Abstract
Among environmental movements in India, activists from the Krishna Valley
have taken a distinctive approach toward promoting the participatory
development of water resources. In chronicling the evolution of the Krishna
Valley movement, this presentation focuses on how political activists and
NGO-engineers have shaped a new model for large dam development. Through
both political protests and the articulation of technical alternatives,
these activists are promoting a vision for sustainable agriculture that
reclaims dams as "technologies of trust," signifying that it is possible to
build large scale water infrastructure that challenges drought without
sacrificing human rights or ecological integrity.
Please join us this Thursday at noon. Feel free to bring you
lunch. Coffee and dessert will be provided.
