That will help with the attached documents. Basically what Jocelyn said but a little fleshed out. I was able to follow that here to get a pdf attached to the notification email. (I couldn't get the custom delivery type to work, but I think we can live with it as a global change. Or I will hack it as needed.)

As to attached objects - which would allow you to execute the default method of the object (i.e. a SAP transaction) from the email, I think that won't work, or at least not easily.  Have a look at this thread:  http://scn.sap.com/thread/3250261 or just go directly to SAP note 1556749.

They were a nice idea but were never implemented. 
In the standard implementation they don't do anything. See the code in class CL_SWN_NOTIFICATION.

Hello Wuggers,

Has anyone successfully used the SHOW_DOCUMENTS_AS and SHOW_OBJECTS_AS 
Subscription Settings of the extended notifications tool?
What exactly are they for? I was hoping one of them would allow me to 
generate links for the objects & attachments in the workitem.
None of the allowed values seem to make any difference in the generated 
email.
I Was unable to find any documentation in the Help/Support Portals.

I am on SAPKB70211.
