There is a rare error that I have encountered twice (if I recall correct) in 
my 10+ years of workflow work: The runtime object is not generated (or not 
generated correctly/updated with the latest changes. Since you have tried a 
lot of other tricks without success, try generating the business object (on 
the application server where the error message occurs just to be on the safe 
side). If that helps I would afterwards go to each of the other servers and 
generate it there.
