Use of SAP Standard Workflows

Hi Folks,

a) I am trying to implement deadline monitoring on WS00275251 SAP Standard 
Workflow but there is no deadlines defined on the step 32, task 
TS00275251.

Can I implement SAP standard deadline monitoring on a workflow that 
doesn't have deadline monitoring defined already?

b) This also brings about a wider question, should we be implementing and 
using SAP Standard workflows at all or should we just be copying them into 
our own custom workflows and modifying if we need to? This appears to be 
the second instance where we are unable to configure something relatively 
simple on a standard workflow and I am starting to wonder is the problem 
that we are using standard workflows when we really shouldn't be?
