Document attachments?

Hi Andy,
There's a standard feature in the BPM Task Execution that allows for the addition of attachments and handles the storage of these attachments as well.

If you open a task from the UWL and look around the top right hand corner of the task window you should see some menu options to do additional actions such as add attachments, add notes, nominate additional team members etc.

You can mark whether an attachment should be visible to subsequent tasks or not. By default it is passed on to subsequent tasks.

There are some configuration settings in the NWA that you can use to adjust permitted attachment size and to turn off features globally if you don't want to use them.

The attachment is kept with the workflow log even once the workflow is completed. I don't see an easy way yet to extract this externally but do you really need to do that given your scenario?

Regards,
Jocelyn

Subject: BPM: Document attachments?

Hi guys

I seem to be struggling to find some appropriate documentation or guidance. I'm curious if anyone could point me in the right direction.

In a NW CE 7.2 BPM workflow, we need the ability to add attachments for visibility during the workflow process, and then thereafter when users are interrogating the completed workflow for a particular Vendor.

On the one hand, I am finding a number of articles and fora entries that suggest that a BPM work item in the UWL should just permit the upload of attachments.
Eg http://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1217254
And http://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1264669

Yet, I am struggling to learn how to actually store these attachments.

For one, I am finding that the document storage technologies I am familiar with, such as ArchiveLink and DMS are not available from EP.

Apparently, there is the Knowledge Management functionality but I have singularly failed to find anything that explains how you use this technology to store a document on a Document Repository, such as IBM CommonStore, OpenText, or even SAP Content Manager. At best, there is an example I've come across that seems to store the data on a file system somewhere.

Also, there seems to be the ECMi interface, but this appears to be a coding and development standard. Are there any pre-built interfaces yet? And which suppliers of storage solutions implement this API?

Finally, as this is the era of SOA, are there some pre-written services I could call?

Thanks
Andy
