Extended Email Notifications in Outlook - JAVA STACK

Hello Experts , 

Do we have to have Java Stack intalled in SAP Servers (atleast in one of the App Servers) to successfully send the email  notification to outlook using extended email notification (SWNCONFIG)?

We are on Netweaver edition ( Release - 701 and Level 3 ) , but we have not installed Java Stack since we don't need it at this moment. 

I have configured everything for extended notifications , when I run the program SWN_SELSEN, I am able to see the message for workitems selected . But those messages are not sent to Email queue. So I was wondering and wanted to confirm "JAVA STACK" will be the resolution for my issue.

I have done 3 implementations in the past with extended notifications without having any issues .

Any thoughts , suggestions or comments ?
