WF translations

Hi all,
 
We have done the translation for workflow related texts in German
language and moved to test system.
Now my doubt is if there are existing work items in test system ( before
the translations related changes have been moved) , do these old work
items will reflect the translation related changes ? 
Or it is like these translations will be applicable for newly started
workflows after the translations are moved in test system?
