Derive Role/ Imparting Role as Possible Agents

Good day all.
I am wondering if any one ever use Derive Role/ Imparting Role as a possible
agents.
I tried but doesn't works.
I'm not quite sure whether we should only use role that assigned to user as
possible agents or actually we can use derive role.
