Alert new workitems

Hello workflow gurus, We are in ECC6.0.When a user logs into the system, the user wants to be informed that he has some workitems and notifications to be treated without going in his business workplace.The Transaction SO16 can only solve my problem for the notifications, but not for workitems.Does anyone have any idea???ThanksXavier
