You can open the portal page with the UWL on it no problem.  
So far as I am aware there is NO way to open on a work item directly
within the portal - and in any case I would consider this bad business
process as it encourages people to ignore the rest of the work in their
inbox.

	If it is difficult to launch the task directly then, If we want
to open only the UWL then it is sufficient to mention the URL in the
SWNCONFIG>General settings right? In this case the user has to input the
user name and password right, is they any way to by pass it like SSO.
Please advice.
	

    --- No need for login if already logged on to portal (should be the
same if using SSO, though I have not used portal with SSO yet)

		You need to assign the URL of the UWL to the parameter
"INBOX_LINK_URL" in General Settings. You would maintain it if you are
providing a link to inbox in your email and want to point it to UWL. You
can provide a link to the workflow task as well that will launch the
task either in SAPGUI for windows or SAPGUI for HTML except for
WebDynpro tasks. 
		 
		Please search this forum for more info. This topic has
been discussed in the very recent past.
