There's a blog about it on SDN. Don't have the link on me but it was mentioned in the WUG forum a couple of months ago.
 
Use category workflow.
Create your own subscription, delivery schedule, schedule selection, and adjust the general settings. 
I recommend granularity "multiple notifications".
