Performance Issue

Hi All,

I am facing a problem in workflow related to performance.
User is getting the Workflow and after clicking on 8-10 times then only this
workitem goes from his inbox.

His is happening because this workitem is updating the database and once
that done it's moving forward.
Can anyone help me what should I do to improve this process or somehow this
workitem should go from the user's inbox after 1st click.
