How can I start my workflow without the event

Or you can use transaction SWUS to start/test the workflow. You could
also create a start transaction, in the workflowbuilder use menu 'Go to
- Web transaction'

Definitely use SAP_WAPI_START_WORKFLOW (assuming it is available on your
release).
